For the past 80 years Periya samy Pooja hasj been undertaken only for 2 times. As far as our ull street kamatchi Amman Kovil is concerned periya samy pooja is becoming non customised. This ongal and Masi shivarathri Poojas are continued in a simple manner but near recently it is being celebrated in a pampous manner .

In the olden days Megavarnam Kotchar and Karuppa Nadar Pangalees were Busy with their business and they didn't have time to conduct regular pooja at the kovil. There would be a main head priest during the time of festivals. But for regular poojas ie for routine pooja, cleaning and maintaining of Kovil they need a person. So they appointed a private person who was the common friend of all the pangalees to look after all this coarse work of the Kovil. He was also called the poojari ie the priest. The priest were appointed after getting the holy sanction from madurai Simekal Kamatchi amman Kovil. This appointment of poojari called in tamil as "Pattam Kattuthal which means holy authorisation. And it is more or less a (hierarchial) hierarchial in nature ie after the father his son will be the priest by getting holy authorisation . in return to their service as poojari they were given pronetary support for their home maintenance like rent , ford, children's education medicine and support for their home hold functions like marriage etc from the Kovil general fund . All went smoothly till a friction errupted as far as the temple maintenance was concerned between them poojari and the other three owner family clan of the temple ie Megavarnam, Kotchar and KaruppaNadar. It came to a lime light in 1925 between then Poojari Kolli Mallaya Nadar and Natanmai Shanmuga Nadar. It was mitigated and compromised by then senior Pangalees of the temple.
